The muscular cigar-chomping figure has been fighting aliens in order to save planet Earth since 1991, when the first game was released. The Nukem video games follow muscular adventures of its titular protagonist, who initially was a mash-up of action-hero tropes. Thankfully, the franchise still has life with Paramount Pictures developing a live-action adaptation with WWE superstar John Cena! Yes, Duke gives homage to Roddy Piper’s Nada when he exclaims, “ It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum…and I’m all out of gum.” The game’s hotly anticipated sequel was an absolute disaster and left fans with a bad taste in their mouths. Horror fans probably remember the Duke Nukem video games better than most being that it boasts a classic tagline ripped straight from John Carpenter’s They Live.
